Greek Lexica Available Online at No Charge
Some of the following lexica are electronic editions that can be used interactively online. Others are PDF files that can be downloaded and used on your personal computer. All are available free of charge.
  1. The two tools listed immediately below are provided by the Perseus Project, an amazing resource for anyone studying Ancient Greek or Latin.
  2. •Liddell-Scott-Jones Lexicon
  3. Search the big LSJ online! You may access the Liddell-Scott-Jones Lexicon at the Perseus site.
  4. While this electronic edition of LSJ is tremendously useful, it is not as up-to-date as the ninth printed edition . For serious lexical study it is still necessary to consult the paper-and-ink version.
  5. •Morphological Analysis tool
  6. If you need to identify the form of a Greek word, try Perseus'  Morphological Analysis tool.
You can search several different dictionaries, including LSJ, using Perseus under Philologic on the University of Chicago’s site.
  1. •S. C. Woodhouse's  English-Greek Dictionary: A Vocabulary of the Attic Language
  2. Woodhouse's  English-Greek Dictionary   can be searched at the library of the University of Chicago. While the dictionary is quite old (1910), it can be very useful for anyone learning Attic prose composition.
  3. •Souter's 1917 Lexicon,  A Pocket Lexicon to the Greek New Testament  (PDF)
  4. Textkit provides a PDF version of  Souter's 1917 lexicon . This lexicon should not be used for serious exegetical work, but can be a useful tool for casual reading of Greek texts. Appropriately, the last entry in the lexicon (on page 297) is WFELIMOS ("useful").
Reverse Search of LSJ
While there are no reliable English to Ancient Greek dictionaries available on the internet, it is possible to conduct a "reverse search" of the LSJ lexicon. To find English words that appear in the definitions of the Greek words, use the following tool.
