The Main Differences between
Christian and Jewsih Canons of Scripture |
|
| The Jewish Tanak contains the exact same books as a Protestant Old Testament, but they are not arranged in the same order. A Catholic Old Testament has a few extra books that are not found in the Jewish Tanak or a Protestant Old Testament. These extra books are called Apocrypha by Protestants and Deuterocanon by Catholics. All Christian Bibles contain a set of books called the New Testament. These books are not included in the Tanak. Jewish communities of faith treat as authoritative a much larger collection of writings called the Talmud. The Talmud contains Mishnah (a collection of legal material traditionally thought to have been delivered in oral form by God to Moses) and Gamara (commentary on the Mishnah). |
